2015 SPX Valedictorian and Top Ten Students

St. Pius X High School awarded 194 diplomas to members of the Class of 2015 on May 20 at graduation ceremonies held at the Sandia Resort Amphitheater. These students contributed more than 14,000 hours of community service and were awarded $10 million in college scholarships.

Valedictorian: Emily Eix
The 2015 St. Pius X High School valedictorian Emily Eix is a National Merit Scholar and a National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar. She received scholarships from eight universities across the country. In her graduation speech, Eix advised her classmates to “be true to your work, your words and your friends,” words inspired by a poem by John Boyle O’Reilly. 

Class of 2015 Top Ten
The Class of 2015 honored its Top Ten academic students at the May 20 graduation ceremony. They are Brianna Barkocy, Joseph Couls, Valedictorian Emily Eix, Tomas Gallegos, Salutatorian Justin Kalan, Christian Lucero, Devon Poage, Joseph Sinclair, Kathleen Rice and Kyle Wrasman.

Best of the Class: Mitchel DiLorenzo and Rory Martinez
The St. Pius X High School Class of 2015 honored Mitchel DiLorenzo and Rory Martinez as best of their class at the SPX Baccalaureate and Senior Awards Night held May 19. The SPX faculty also honored DiLorenzo as the Outstanding Graduate of the Class of 2015.

“Words and phrases like ‘role model, always smiling, always helpful, selfless, passionate and diligent’ are phrases used to describe (DiLorenzo and Martinez),” said Dr. Barbara Rothweiler, St. Pius X principal. “They have been active in student council, campus ministry, sports and other student activities. They are committed to their Catholic faith, to St. Pius and are held in the highest esteem by their classmates.”

Using the school motto, “Teach me goodness, discipline, and knowledge,” the faculty used a multistep voting process to select DiLorenzo as the Outstanding Graduate of the Class of 2015. He also received a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps full, four-year scholarship during the awards presentation.
