Saint Pius X students performed very well in overall score for all events combined, winning four of the top five individual performances in New Mexico.  Junior Sam Apodaca won first, senior Matthew Torres took second, junior Marena Trujillo placed third, and senior Marek Listy placed fifth in overall score at the state level!  In addition, within the Varsity Division, Saint Pius X swept all three top positions, with seniors Haydn Jones, Amy Moore, and Jordan Wylie taking first, second, and third.

By winning the State Championship, the Saint Pius X Team qualified for the National Finals, held this year in Anchorage, Alaska.  The team is coached by Advanced Math Teacher Mr. James Penn, assisted by Science Department Head Mr. Jonathan Ball. Mr. Penn initiated the program at SPX when he started teaching at the Saint Pius X in the fall of 1991. Since that time, Saint Pius X has won more state championships than any other school in New Mexico, including twelve of the last fifteen years of competition.

This year, three Saint Pius X students competed at the State level as individuals in hopes of receiving an invitation to the National Finals to compete on an individual basis. Senior Natasha Dark, junior Andrew Sinclair, and junior Aaron Plant hope to achieve this honor. Their scores were very comparable to those of the starting members of the Saint Pius X varsity team, but at the time of this writing they are awaiting the decision of judges at the national level to see if they are awarded invitations to Nationals.

Below would have been the medal status for these individuals at the State Championship:
