The Science Department is pleased to recognize members of the new Science Olympiad team that participated in the regional competition at UNM on January 30. Partners’ mastery of various scientific topics were put to the test and we are proud of how well our students performed in their first ever competition. Our teams placed 10th and 12th overall and one pair of students, Nikki Cox and Xavier Robinson, received the 2nd place prize in the very competitive Cell Biology event!
Though it may feel that the spring semester just started, it is already time to start thinking about summer school and classes for the 2016/2017 school year. Summer school registration forms can be picked up from the main office and should be completed ASAP. Please keep in mind that many of the science classes offered over the summer require the completion of an application prior to registration and the time to apply for Chemistry and Honors Chemistry has passed. The following science classes will be offered at St. Pius this summer:
Conceptual Physics (June 6– July 15)
Biology I (June 6– July 15)
Chemistry (June 6– July 15)
Honors Chemistry Extension (June 6– June 24)
In addition to summer school registration, the application process is also underway for Advanced Placement courses next school year. The science department will offer 3 AP classes next year:
AP Biology II
AP Environmental Science
AP Physics C
Students interested in taking these courses must submit an AP Application Form to their current science teacher by February 26, 2016, and, if accepted into the class, complete an AP Agreement Form (in the Counseling Department) by March 25, 2016.
