On April 14 students attended a spectacular presentation of dance, costume, and music from Spain by a Foclórico group named Yjastro put on by the American Flamenco Repertory Company.
SPX students along with students from 14 other schools attended this event at the National Hispanic Culture Center. After the performance, students meandered to one of the fine New Mexican American restaurants, Barela’s Coffee House or El Modelo to lunch on some tasty New Mexican dishes which include stuffed sopapillas, tamales, enchiladas and tacos.
The experience put our students into an authentic Latino setting where many of the people involved speak Spanish fluently. It was an outing that proved to be a true cultural experience for our students.
