St. Pius X is fortunate to have two ordained ministers serving our
students, a full-time priest and deacon.Father Anthony Maes, an
archdiocesean priest, serves as a chaplain for St. Pius X . He resides at the Shrine of St. Bernadette Parish.
Fr. Anthony Maes is a native New Mexican, born in Albuquerque in
1955. His parents were born in Willard, New Mexico, and he comes from a
long line of New Mexicans dating back to 1540, when his earliest
ancestor, Captain Pedro Carela de Jaramillo, came to New Mexico with the
expedition of Francisco Coronado.
Fr. Maes' father passed away in 1998 from a long struggle with heart
disease, but he says, "I hold his memory close to my heart and he is
only a prayer away when I need him." Fr. Maes's mother lives here in
Albuquerque and spends much of her time in service to her parish
community, serving as an example of someone who goes beyond herself to
tend to the elderly and their spiritual needs.
His two brothers, one older and one younger, have four children and
five grandchildren between them. He is a proud uncle and great-uncle,
and he feels blessed to have both family and the St. Pius community.
Rene Greivel was appointed as the SPX chaplain by the Archbishop
Michael J. Sheehan in 2006. He was the first deacon to hold the position
of chaplain at SPX.
His personal mission is about empowering
youth, and in his over 30 years as a youth leader he has led groups at
St. Anne and St. Joseph on the Rio Grande. At SPX, he helps in
organizing Campus Ministry and the retreats throughout the year.
