Head of School Update

 
 
Announcement from the SPX Board of Trustees – May 16, 2022
 
The Board of Trustees and the Members of Saint Pius X High School Inc. announce the hiring of
a new Head of School, Michael Deely, who will assume leadership of the SPX campus on July 1,
2022. He brings an extensive background in Catholic education to St. Pius, beginning as a
teacher, campus minister and coach at University San Diego High School from 1994 to 2001. In
2001, he began his leadership career as principal of St Charles Borromeo Academy and in 2006
moved to Cathedral Catholic High School, a school with a population of 1700 students in the
Diocese of San Diego. He led Cathedral for nine years, during which time the school earned the
title of Apple Distinguished School for innovation and initiated students’ dual enrollment with
UCSD, San Diego Mesa College and Point Loma Nazarene University.
 
Most recently, Mr. Deely has been the Head of School at Pope John Paul II Preparatory School
in Nashville, TN. During his tenure in Nashville, he was responsible for expanding their
academic programs, including STEM Programs and the creation of the Center for Innovation and
Entrepreneurship. He increased AP and Dual Enrollment courses and grew the Arts Department
to include classes in dance, media, marketing, and graphic design. In addition, Mike has been an
international speaker and trainer in the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires, Argentina in leadership for
school change. He also brings his extensive background in the integration of technology for
learning and was a speaker at the Apple Leadership Conference for the Los Angeles Unified
School District in 2015.
 
The St. Pius X Community welcomes Mr. Mike Deely and looks forward to him leading
students and staff in continuing the tradition of academic excellence and faith formation while
nurturing each students’ gifts and talents.
