FOOTBALL
The Sartans hosted their first "home" game on the APS Milne Stadium field on Thursday, August 29th, against former district opponent Grants High School. After a tight opening quarter, the Sartans took an early 7-0 lead with a touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Isaiah Carpenter to senior WR Bryan Thomas. Carpenter, who finished the night with four touchdown passes, also connected with Cayl Cox-Liggins twice and Curtis Flakes III. Carpenter added a rushing touchdown, securing the 40-7 win and moving the Sartans to a 1-1 record on the season. The Sartans will host Moriarty (2-0) on Saturday, September 7th, at Community Stadium, with an 11 a.m. kickoff.
SOCCER - BOYS
Boys varsity soccer defeated Albuquerque High on Friday of last week by a score of 2-1. The Sartans received goals from Mateo Certain (39’) and Nico Reyes (58’). The Sartans finished pool play 3-0 at the APS Metro Championships Invite and will now move into the Gold Bracket, facing Atrisco Heritage Academy on Wednesday, September 4th, at 7 p.m. at the APS Complex.
SOCCER - GIRLS
The varsity girls team was also victorious on Friday with a 4-2 win over Atrisco Heritage Academy at the APS Metro Championships Invite. This marks the first win of the season, improving the girls' record to 1-2 overall after an earlier loss during pool play to Sandia High School. They will move into bracket play, taking on Sandia Prep on Wednesday, September 4th, at 4:45 p.m. at the APS Complex. Also, Middle School Co-Ed Soccer won 2-0 vs Sandia Prep and tied 2-2 in their second match.
VOLLEYBALL
The Sartans defeated Rio Rancho on Thursday night, winning 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-23). The Sartans are 2-0 on the season heading into a road game on Thursday against Los Alamos (0-1). In other volleyball news, the 8th-grade team defeated Mountain View Middle School (Rio Rancho) on Wednesday.
