Athletics: St. Pius X Sartans Dominate Pool Play in APS Metro Championships

On Tuesday night, the St. Pius X Sartans kicked off pool play in the Albuquerque Public Schools 2024 Metro Championships, an annual invitational featuring some of New Mexico's top teams. Competing in Pool C at West Mesa High School, the Sartans faced reigning 3A state champions St. Michael’s, along with 5A squads Eldorado and West Mesa.

The Sartans swept the competition, going a perfect 6-0, winning two sets against each team: 2-0 over St. Michael’s, 2-0 over Eldorado, and 2-0 over West Mesa. Head Coach Jordan Russell described the games with “it was a smooth night,” with standout performances from Maya Perea (2026), Maya Baca (2025), Alyssa Bendinskas (2026), and rising star Kaitlyn Sweetin (2028), leading the reigning 4A state champs.

With this dominant showing, the Sartans earned a spot in the prestigious "Gold Bracket" and will face 5A powerhouse Cleveland in the opening round on Thursday, September 12th at 7:00 p.m. at Eldorado High School.

JV Boys Soccer Dominates West Mesa in Impressive Victory

The JV Boys Soccer team put on a commanding performance Tuesday afternoon at St. Pius X School’s Ben Rios Fields, scoring four quick goals early in the game. They went on to secure a dominant win over 5A opponent West Mesa, showcasing their skill and teamwork throughout the match.
