Athletic Review: September 9-14
Cross Country: The boys varsity had the closest 1-5 spread in the history of the SPX program at the Lobo Invitational. Only 45 seconds separated the top Sartan, Max Lopez (12) and our 5th scoring runner, Silas Brown (9). Liam Chavez (12), Liam Brown (11) and Josh Robbins (12) were the middle scorers for the Sartans.
The girls were led by Takira Konico (10) and Mia Cahill (9), with Stella Copeland (10), Olivia Neimann (10) and Kaylee Gray (9) scoring for the Lady Sartans.
The team travels to Zuni for a special Quad Meet with host Zuni, Santa Fe and Academy this Saturday.
Football: The St. Pius X Sartans football team fell to 6A Organ Mountain on Saturday night, 49-16. The Sartans are now 2-2 for the season and will begin District 2-4A play on September 26th, hosting Silver High School.
Soccer (boys): After months of planning, Head Coach AJ Herrera '99 and the St. Pius X Boys Soccer team traveled to Maryland to compete against several highly ranked private Catholic schools. The Sartans finished 1-2 overall at the tournament. After starting 0-2, they closed with a 2-0 win against St. Andrew’s Episcopal (Potomac, MD) on the final day. They now hold a 5-3 record and have a highly anticipated matchup against Albuquerque Academy at home on September 17th.

Soccer (girls): The Sartans girls soccer team traveled north to face Aztec High School, securing a 3-1 victory. This marks their second straight win, bringing their season record to 3-3.
Volleyball: The varsity volleyball team competed in the Albuquerque Public Schools Metro Championships, finishing with a 2-1 record and placing 5th overall. The Sartans defeated 3A St. Michael’s (3-1) and 5A Cibola (3-1), but fell to 5A Cleveland (3-1) in the opening round. With these victories, the team now stands at 5-1 on the season.
