Athletic Review: September 30 - October 5

Cross Country

At the Albuquerque Metro Championships on Saturday, the St. Pius X girls made a strong showing. Brooke Kelly finished in the top 10, clocking in at 20:51 and placing 7th overall. This performance highlighted a strong week for the Sartans' runners.

The boys' team delivered a historic performance, finishing 4th—marking the best-ever finish for the Sartans at the Metro Championships. Led by Senior Liam Chavez, who placed 17th with a time of 17:41, the top five boys were tightly grouped, separated by just 10 places and 33 seconds.

The St. Pius X Cross Country team had a special guest at their pre-Metro Championship dinner this past week — Olympian Josh Kerr (pictured below)! The middle-distance runner, who brought home a bronze medal for Great Britain in the 1500m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, took time to meet with the team and share words of encouragement ahead of their big race.

Having an Olympian like Josh Kerr share his time and experiences was a memorable moment for the athletes, and one that surely sparked extra motivation for the remainder of the season.
