Varsity Football: Sartans Dominate Portales, Stay Undefeated in District

(Varsity) The St. Pius X Sartans continued their strong district performance with a dominant 48-18 victory over Portales. After a tight first quarter, where the Sartans held a narrow 7-5 lead, they pulled away before halftime with a 20-5 advantage. In the second half, the Sartans continued to assert their dominance, adding 28 more points—14 in each quarter—cruising to their fifth win of the season. Now 5-2 overall and 3-0 in District 2-4A, the Sartans sit at the top of their district standings.

Sophomore quarterback Isaiah Carpenter was a key factor in the win, throwing for 312 yards and four touchdowns. Carpenter's precise passing helped propel the offense throughout the game, and his chemistry with his receivers was on full display. Running back Herschul Olloway Jr., also a sophomore, was equally impressive, rushing for 151 yards and scoring two touchdowns, consistently breaking through the Portales defense.

Sophomore wide receiver Cayl Cox-Liggins made a huge impact with 183 receiving yards and two touchdowns on six receptions, giving Carpenter a reliable target downfield. Curtis Flakes III, another sophomore, contributed two touchdown receptions and 41 receiving yards, while Bryan Thomas added 43 receiving yards to round out the passing attack. Junior running back Kolbe Padilla also contributed to the scoring effort with a rushing touchdown.
