Cross Country
The St. Pius X cross country teams competed in the prestigious Los Alamos Invite on Friday, facing a strong field of competitors.

Varsity Football
The Sartan football team celebrated a stellar 65-28 Homecoming victory over Valencia on Friday night at Wilson Stadium, improving to a 7-2 overall record and an undefeated 5-0 in District 2-4A. Sophomore quarterback Isaiah Carpenter led the charge, completing 14 of 18 passes for 243 yards and six touchdowns, maintaining an impressive 77.8% completion rate. On the ground, sophomore Hershul Olloway Jr. rushed for 254 yards on just 11 carries, scoring two touchdowns with a long run of 65 yards. He also added an interception for the defense. Senior receiver Bryan Thomas was pivotal, catching five passes for 89 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Cayl Cox-Liggins added 132 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns. With a dynamic all-around game, the Sartans’ offense totaled 529 yards while the defense held firm, highlighted by junior Kolbe Padilla’s team-leading 14 tackles.

Boys Soccer
The St. Pius X boys' soccer team finished their regular season in dominant fashion, securing a 2-0 win over Hope Christian on Monday and a district 3-0 victory over Highland on Thursday, thus clinching the District 5-4A Championship with a flawless 8-0 record. With a 17-3 overall record, the Sartans earned the #1 seed in the NMAA State Playoffs, advancing directly to the quarterfinals on November 1 or 2. Key players included sophomore Mateo Certain, who scored in Monday’s game, and freshman Lance Yarbrough, who added to the scoring on Thursday. The Sartans look forward to continuing their playoff journey with high hopes.

Girls Soccer
The girls' soccer team also wrapped up their district play as champions, securing an 8-0 record with a final victory of 10-0 against Highland on Thursday. Their outstanding season record of 12-8 earned them the #5 seed in the NMAA State Playoffs. They will host the #12 seed Aztec on Tuesday, October 29, at Ben Rios Field. Senior Izabella Cotinola led the offensive surge against Highland with three goals, while standout performances came from seniors Carina Suarez and Audrey Mileshosky. 

Volleyball
The Sartan volleyball team showcased their dominance last week with key wins over Highland and Belen, improving their record to 16-3 overall and remaining undefeated in District 5-4A with a 5-0 tally. The team swept both matches, showcasing powerful serves and a dynamic offense. Against Belen, the Sartans recorded set scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-10. Led by strong team coordination, they remain poised for the upcoming district championships.

C-Team Volleyball Shines on Home Court

On Thursday, October 24, the C-Team Volleyball team took to their home court against Belen. From the first serve, they dominated the game, putting together impressive plays and working in unison. Their hard work and dedication paid off, resulting in a decisive victory for the C-Team.

JV Soccer and Volleyball Teams Showcase Grit and Skill

Monday, October 21, was a challenging day filled with back-to-back games against Hope. The JV Girls Soccer team started off at home, battling their way to a 2-2 tie in a game full of suspense. They held their ground against a strong Hope team, showing resilience on both sides of the ball. Across town, the JV Boys Soccer team faced off with Hope as well, putting on a remarkable display of skill and teamwork. Their relentless defense and quick, strategic plays led them to a 2-0 victory, an impressive shutout that set the tone for the week ahead.

Tuesday, October 22, brought more success for the JV teams as they hit the road for Highland. The JV Volleyball team played with confidence, leading to a smooth victory. 

Finishing Strong Against Highland and Belen

The week wrapped up with an exciting Thursday lineup on October 24. At home, the JV Boys Soccer team faced Highland in a nail-biter, ultimately pulling off a 3-2 win. 

That same evening, the JV Volleyball team welcomed Belen to SPX, where they delivered another impressive performance on home court, 2-0. The JV team improved their record to 13-2-1 overall on the season. 

Middle School Sports
The middle school teams displayed remarkable skill and teamwork. In girls’ basketball, the white team triumphed over Academy on Wednesday, while the gold team fought hard in a narrow loss. The flag football team secured a notable win against Bosque for the White Team while the Black Team fell on Tuesday, contributing to a successful week for St. Pius X athletics.
