BASKETBALL (BOYS)
The St. Pius X varsity boys basketball team delivered a strong performance last week, finishing 3-1 and taking third place at the Hope Christian Tournament.
The week began with a hard-fought 70-62 victory over Del Norte in a regular season matchup on January 14. The Sartans carried that momentum into the first round of the tournament on January 16, cruising to a dominant 70-38 win over Bloomfield.
In the semifinals on January 17, the Sartans faced a tough Artesia squad, ultimately falling 70-62 in a tightly contested game. They bounced back in the third-place game on January 18, defeating Taos 73-63 to cap off the weekend. The Sartans now stand at 12-5 overall for the season. No stats available.
Junior Varsity:
The Sartan junior varsity team improved to 6-6 on the season with a convincing 58-38 win over Los Alamos on January 16.
C-Team:
The Sartan C-Team continues to impress, sitting at 6-1 overall and riding a four-game winning streak. Their latest victory came on January 16, a decisive 50-25 win over Los Alamos.
Up Next:
The Sartans begin district play this week, hosting Belen on January 21 and Grants on January 24 in St. Sebastian Gymnasium.
BASKETBALL (GIRLS)
The St. Pius X varsity girls basketball team wrapped up last week with a 2-2 record, securing the consolation title at the Hope Christian Tournament and riding a two-game win streak into district play.
The week began with a narrow non-district loss to rival Albuquerque Academy, 46-43, on January 14. In the first round of the Hope Christian Tournament on January 16, the Sartans fell to Class 5A powerhouse Los Lunas, 54-33. However, they quickly rebounded with a commanding 50-36 win over Bloomfield on January 17, followed by a 46-40 victory against Taos on January 18. The Sartans now hold a 10-6 overall record. Junior Varsity:
The junior varsity team continues to shine, boasting a 6-3 overall record and riding a four-game win streak. Their most recent victory came on January 14 with a 37-33 triumph over Albuquerque Academy.
Up Next:
The Sartans begin district play this week on the road, traveling to Belen on January 21 before heading to Grants on January 24.

WRESTLING:
This weekend, our Sartans traveled to Farmington, NM, to compete in the Aztec Duals & Girls Individual Tournament—and they delivered outstanding performances!
Boys Team: Finished 8-1 in duals, claiming 3rd place overall.
Girls Team: Secured 4th place with three seniors taking home gold and strong finishes from our underclassmen.

Next: The Sartan Scuffle is set for this weekend, Friday, January 24, and Saturday, January 25. The two-day event will feature 39 boys' teams and 37 girls' teams from across New Mexico. It will be held at the Rio Rancho Events Center in Rio Rancho.
Middle School
Basketball (Boys):
- 8th Grade: The boys' 8th-grade basketball team secured a victory over Albuquerque Academy on Monday in front of a home crowd, continuing their strong season.
- 7th/6th Grade: With three teams competing this season, the younger Sartans have shown great promise. Each team has played two games, facing Albuquerque Academy, Cottonwood Classical, and Sandia Prep. The gold team notably earned a solid 10-point win over Albuquerque Academy in their most recent game.
Basketball (Girls):
- 8th Grade: The girls' 8th-grade basketball team matched their male counterparts with a win over Albuquerque Academy at home on Monday, showcasing their competitive spirit.
Wrestling:
The middle school wrestling team continues to develop their skills and gain valuable experience. On Monday, January 13, they participated in duals at Albuquerque Academy. Later in the week, they traveled to Los Lunas on Saturday, January 18, where they represented St. Pius X with determination and growth in the sport.
