The Sartans varsity baseball team took on a challenging slate at the Sal Puentes Invitational hosted by Rio Rancho High School. Facing top-tier 5A competition, St. Pius X dropped games to Carlsbad (11-0) and Rio Rancho (8-0), but bounced back with a big rivalry win over 4A Albuquerque Academy, 10-3. The team also notched an 11-8 win over 5A Rio Grande and fell in a 10-inning heartbreaker to 5A Los Lunas, 4-3.

In the win over Albuquerque Academy, the Sartans struck early, scoring in every inning except the fourth, and capped off the performance with a 4-run sixth. The Sartans are now 7-10 overall and will open District 5-4A play on Tuesday, April 1, hosting Belen.

A Special Brotherly Moment on the Baseball Field

In the thrilling 12–11 win over Albuquerque High on March 13, a touching pregame moment stole the spotlight. Albuquerque High sophomore Alejandro Lucero threw out the ceremonial first pitch—to his big brother, Santiago Lucero, a senior at St. Pius X. A heartfelt thank you to Albuquerque High School for capturing and sharing this beautiful moment of family and sportsmanship across schools.

C-Team Baseball also made a strong showing last week, defeating Albuquerque Academy 21-6 on Monday.
