High School

Baseball

The St. Pius X varsity baseball team continued their strong start in District 5-4A play, earning a dominant 12-1 win over Valencia on Tuesday before falling to Rio Grande on Saturday, 11-1. The Sartans now sit at 10-11 overall and remain undefeated in district play at 3-0.

In the win over Valencia, the Sartans put together an explosive offensive performance, scoring 12 runs on 9 hits. Jacob Madrid led the charge, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBIs, and a home run. He also dominated on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing just three hits and no earned runs, while striking out eight. Joaquin Aragon, Jax Mulville, and Diego Trujillo each added multiple hits and RBIs in the victory.

On Saturday, the momentum didn’t carry over, as the Sartans struggled offensively in a tough 11-1 loss to Rio Grande. Despite the result, the team did produce six hits, with Diego Trujillo, Zain Unis, Dominic Ramsey, and Jax Mulville each going 1-for-1 or 1-for-2 at the plate.

In sub-varsity action, the C-Team picked up a win on Monday over Sandia Prep, while JV baseball dropped a game to Valencia on Tuesday, but bounced back with a strong win over Rio Grande on Saturday morning.

Golf

The St. Pius X varsity golf teams delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday at the SPX Spring Fever Tournament, held at Los Altos Golf Course. Competing against a field of eight schools, both the boys and girls varsity teams swept the competition, finishing first overall.

In the boys individual competition, Elliott Ochs and Jacob Madrid tied for first place, while Jax Mulville secured third, rounding out a strong showing for the team. On the girls side, Olivia Long earned third place in the individual standings, continuing her consistent play this season.

Softball

The St. Pius X varsity softball team improved to 8-12 overall and remained unbeaten in District 5-4A play at 3-0 after securing back-to-back victories last week over Belen (9-6) and Valencia (19-9).

On Monday, the Sartans took down Belen in a high-scoring matchup, breaking open a tight game with a five-run seventh inning. Sophomore Jordan Chavez went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while fellow sophomore Lilee Zarate had a monster day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs. Daniella Romero, Aubri Hooee, and Amari Jaramillo each contributed multiple hits in a balanced offensive performance. Zarate also pitched a complete game, allowing six runs and striking out three.

The team returned to action on Tuesday against Valencia and continued their offensive surge with 17 hits and 14 RBIs. Zarate was once again dominant, going 5-for-5 with three runs scored, three RBIs, and two extra-base hits. Chavez added a 4-for-5 performance, including a home run and six RBIs, while Grace Grady, Isabella Caba, and Davianna Romero each chipped in with key hits. Zarate picked up the win in the circle with another complete-game effort, striking out five.

The JV softball team dropped both of its games this week, falling to Belen on Monday and Valencia on Tuesday.

Tennis

The JV Girls Tennis team also delivered an impressive performance, earning a strong win over St. Michael’s High School. Congratulations to JV tennis on the well-deserved victory.

St. Pius X Rugby Shines on Home Pitch

St. Pius X rugby had a strong showing on our home pitch Saturday, delivering competitive play across all age groups.

The day began with a close U16 match, falling just short to Los Alamos 10-7. The U19s followed with a win edging Los Alamos 14-10. Our U14s wrapped up the morning session with a solid 17-10 victory over Eldorado.

In the second round of matches, the U16s bounced back with a 21-5 win over the Eldorado, while the U14s added another dominant performance, defeating Rio Rancho 30-10. The U19s capped off the day with a thrilling 26-19 win against La Cueva.

The St. Pius X men’s volleyball team faced a challenging outing on Thursday, April 10, falling in matches against Eldorado and Volcano Vista. Despite the setbacks, the team continues to compete hard and gain valuable experience as the season progresses.

Middle School

It was a busy and successful week for St. Pius X middle school athletics, with standout performances in softball and track and field, and a hard-fought effort on the baseball diamond.

The middle school softball team delivered two dominant doubleheader sweeps. On Monday, the Sartans defeated Los Alamos by scores of 18-0 and 14-1 at home. They followed that up with another sweep on Wednesday, this time over Valencia, continuing their impressive run through the season.

On Tuesday, April 8, the boys and girls middle school track & field teams both took first place at the Albuquerque Academy meet.

Meanwhile, middle school baseball faced a tough opponent in Estancia, falling in both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 9. The team continues to develop and look ahead to upcoming matchups.
